Spider monkeys are New World monkeys belonging to the genus Ateles, part of the subfamily Atelinae, family Atelidae.
Like other atelines,
they are found in tropical forests of Central and South America,
from southern Mexico to Brazil.

Adaptation:
The most outstanding physical adaptations are the prehensile tail
and the hook-like hands - both making the spider monkey
ideal for arboreal life.
These hook-like hands and long arms allow them to swing by their arms beneath
the tree branches.

30 to 40 years In captivity, the lifespan is 30 to 40 years for other species of spider monkeys.

Other than humans, jaguars and pumas appear to be the only significant predator of adult spider monkeys.
Eagles and large snakes are also potential predators.
